Basketball is a universal language spoken in hundreds of countries by millions of people.
Doncic Luka is very good.
The “Wonder Boy” is obviously not a teenager anymore.
Doncic is still over two years younger than any other Dallas Mavericks player, despite turning 20 on February 28.
How does he relax and unwind?
“Play video games, mostly,” Doncic replies, referring to his love of the game Fortnite.
Online, Doncic frequently faces off against fellow NBA players and former teammates from Europe. As far as the Mavs are concerned, he is the top Fortnite player.
Does Dirk take part?
“No,” shrugs Doncic. His age doesn’t permit it.
The Mavericks’ best player is also the face of the franchise.
Doncic is at the top of the team in three categories heading into the final 25 games of his rookie season: points (20.7), rebounds (7.2), and assists (5.6).
The 6’7″ guard/forward leads the squad in 3-point shooting (35% on 2.4 attempts per game).
The stats are startling for anyone, let alone a 19-year-old competing against the finest in the world. And many of the greatest in the world see something special in Doncic:
“Ask me, would I like to play with Kevin Durant. Ask me … Absolutely. Ask me if I’d like to play with Jimmy Butler. Ask me about Kyrie Irving. Giannis [Antetokounmpo]. Ask me about [Joel] Embiid. Ben Simmons. Go ahead. All of them. Luka Doncic … Come on guys, it’s not rocket science. These are great players.” -Lakers forward LeBron James
Who was your favorite player growing up?
“LeBron James.”
What was it like playing against LeBron for the first time?
“It was special,” Doncic smiles. “I was kind of nervous. It was the first time I was kind of nervous. I wasn’t nervous for my first game in the NBA, but I was when i played LeBron.”
