The Golden State Warriors and Steve Kerr just inked a $35 million, two-year contract. The long-serving head coach’s present contract is about to expire at the end of this season, which is when this transition will take place. Kerr will now sit out games for Golden State until the completion of the 2025–2026 campaign.
It’s notable that his new contract ends on the same day as Stephen Curry’s current one, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. In 2022, Curry signed a $215 million, four-year contract. He’s in his second season in the play right now.
Despite having a mixed season, Kerr has kept the respect of the Warriors executive office. It may be argued that he deserves it given his past behavior.
When the Warriors swept the NBA and claimed their first title in over 40 years in 2015, Kerr was the team’s first-year head coach. Following LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers’ six-game loss in the 2015 NBA Finals, the two teams’ rivalry started and lasted for an additional three years.
Golden State defeated the Cavaliers twice more in 2017 and 2018 to win two more titles. In the years that followed, a slew of injuries and Kevin Durant’s departure caused fans to start counting out the club. However, the way the Warriors played in the 2022 postseason proved everyone wrong.
The team finished the regular season as the third seed and advanced to the championship round, where they defeated the youthful and driven Boston Celtics in six games.
With the dynasty nearing its end, four titles remain. Before it’s all done, the Warriors fan base still anticipates seeing at least one more game from Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry, and the other veterans.
