“Christmas with the Currys” Illuminates the Holidays for 500 Needy Families at Oakland’s The Bridge Yard

Eat Learn Play is a project by Stephen and Ayesha Curry. On Sunday, Foundation brought Christmas to West Oakland.

The couple and several sponsors celebrated The Bridge Yard’s 10th Annual Christmas on Sunday.

This holiday season, 500 Oakland families in need benefited from Winter Wonderland. A skating rink, an ice arcade, snowball fights, face painting, illuminated ring swings, and pictures with Santa Claus were among the family-friendly attractions.

Annually, in collaboration with the Oakland Public Library, Black Cultural Zone, and Oakland Literacy Coalition, free books were given to kids and families to promote holiday reading.

Non-perishable meal packages, electronics, home products, clothing, gift cards, games, toys, event tickets, Literati books, and more were available at Christmas with the Currys.

Under Armour provided Curry Brand basketballs and bags to families in attendance as part of Curry Brand’s mission to increase youth basketball accessibility in locations that served as inspiration for Stephen’s life and career.

Families took part in a custom Fairyland event with elements of a winter wonderland all day long. Families threw snowballs, frosted cookies, swung from lit swings, and went ice skating.

While some kids saw Santa and Mrs. Claus, others took pictures in the Snow Globe photo booth. There were also amusement rides, a Jack and Jill Snow Hill for sledding, and take-home story time stations.
