Giannis Antetokounmpo saw zero action in the postseason for the Milwaukee Bucks. This is after the former back-to-back MVP suffered a devastating calf injury right before the Playoffs started.
As it turns out, he is not the only Antetokounmpo who is dealing with a significant injury. Apparently, his older brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo has suffered a torn Achilles that will require immediate surgery.
NBA guru Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the news on Wednesday evening: ‘Milwaukee Bucks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo has sustained a torn Achilles tendon and will undergo surgery’
Not too many details are available at the moment, and it is unclear how Thanasis suffered the injury at this point in the season.
This is a tremendous blow for Thanasis, who will be turning 32 this summer. A torn Achilles is one of the worst injuries a player can suffer, and it requires a significant recovery period. In the past, multiple players have missed full seasons recovering from this type of injury.
Given that he hasn’t exactly been able to establish himself as a vital member of the Bucks’ rotation, it will be intriguing to watch how the 6-foot-7 forward spends his summer. After this season, his current contract will expire, making him a free agent come summertime.
It goes without saying that when Milwaukee decides whether to offer the older Antetokounmpo another contract deal, they will give this injury careful thought.
