During the regular season, Doncic scored the most points in the league. However, he had some problems in the game against Oklahoma City. He had played through a sprained right knee and a sore left ankle for the first four games, but only scored 22 points on 39% of his shots. To get his sixth playoff triple-double, he made 12 out of 22 field goals, had 11 assists, and grabbed 10 boards in Game 5.

Derek Jones Jr. scored 19 points, which was the most in his playoff career. P.J. Washington Jr. scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards for Dallas, which made 52.6% of its shots from the floor. If the No. 5 seeded Mavericks win at home on Saturday, they will go to the Western Conference playoffs.

For the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points, but no other Oklahoma City player scored more than 13 points.

They beat the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round, too, in Game 5 which they won on the road. Oklahoma City was only able to shoot 42.5% against Dallas.

To try to get its offense going again, Oklahoma City put Isaiah Joe in the starting lineup instead of Josh Giddey. Giddey did not start his first game in any of the 229 regular season or playoff games.

Dallas was ahead by 15 points in the second quarter and 54–44 at the break. Before the break, Jones got 15 points.

Even though Gilgeous-Alexander scored 14 points in the third quarter, Dallas still had a 79-67 lead.

In the beginning of the fourth quarter, Dallas had an 18-point lead before the Thunder came back strong. When Gilgeous-Alexander made a 3-pointer with just under seven minutes left, the score was 89–79. This made Dallas call a timeout. The Thunder were never under seven points the rest of the way.
