BIG DREAM: Mavs star Kyrie Irving dream came true when he helped his father retain the magnificent Malibu property with an ocean-view

More than a year after putting her Malibu hillside house on the market for $18,000, chef and cookbook author Geraldine Gilliland gave the keys to the new owner.

Public records show that Drederick Irving, who is the father of Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving, bought the house for $10.7 million, which is about $7.4 million less than what it was originally listed for. Irving used to play basketball in college and professionally.

Gilliland, who owns the restaurant Lula Cocina Mexicana in Santa Monica, bought the 40-acre property called “Rancho Chiquita.” It was used for weddings, parties, shooting of “The Voice,” and a non-profit dog rescue. It’s been a while since Gilliland bought more land. The compound is now gated and has a detached home and a main house made in the hacienda style. Both are on a 225-acre lot with views of the ocean and mountains.

The main home, with its terracotta roof and stucco exterior, is about 6,700 square feet and has two stories of living space with wood beam ceilings, parquet and Saltillo tile floors, arched entrances, and clerestory windows all around. The main level features a gourmet kitchen with granite countertops, an eat-in island with built-in wine storage, high-end stainless appliances, a walk-in pantry, and a breakfast alcove. There is also a formal dining room with its own fireplace and a living room with a fireplace.

All of the bedrooms are secluded in two separate wings of the house, one featuring an ocean-view master retreat with a custom fireplace, private patio, spacious cedar-lined walk-in closet, separate fireside sitting room, loft space, and luxe bath that opens to a terrace with a spa, and the other holding two main-level bedrooms with access to an outdoor palapa and a lower-level staff/guest suite with two bedrooms, an office, living room, and kitchen.

Outdoors, the palatial grounds feature a pool and spa with an infinity edge, a kitchen and bar, and numerous areas ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining, including a grassy area that can accommodate up to 250 guests. In addition to a three-car garage and parking for at least 20 vehicles, additional features include a distinct gated service entrance leading to a large motor court and an event staging area.
