Jayson Tatum has shared as became a father at age 19:
“I believe everything in life happens for a reason. When I found out I was going to be a father, I was still in college.
“I’m not happy at all. I was a little selfish because I knew I would achieve my dream of entering the NBA. And I think that will affect what people think of me and my draft position.
“So, I wasn’t very excited when I found out I was going to be a father. But I soon realized it was the best thing in the world. There’s nothing better than being a father.
“During the first season, when I was 19 years old, fatherhood taught me responsibility. It’s complicated being 19 years old, famous and having so much money. No one can help you or prepare you for turning 19 and having millions of dollars.
“And having a son at that age puts my feet on the ground because every decision I make is with him in mind. It’s not just about acting or imitating people my age. I have to go home and put him to sleep. On Father’s Day, I had to leave town. He refused to go on trips with friends to take care of him.
“But that’s not a sacrifice. I offered to do it. It taught me to be responsible and make good decisions, knowing that there is a 6 year old “little me” watching everything I do.
“I need to be the best version of myself and make the right decisions because he’s always there for me.”
