After assisting Greece to victory over Croatia in the qualifications on Sunday, Giannis Antetokounmpo secured his spot at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. After that, Antetokounmpo became emotional because Greece’s men’s basketball team had not qualified for the Olympics since 2008. He is going to the Olympics for the first time.

He posted a picture of his son supporting him and shedding a tear to show his feelings. As a caption, Giannis wrote:

“I never cheated in a game. In Paris, see you.” Immediately, fans attempted to interpret Giannis’ meaning. Many believed it had to do with his decision to stay on the team, playing for a weaker Greek squad rather than applying for citizenship to play for a better team, perhaps the USA.

Joel Embiid has been targeted by some trolls using this tweet. The great player for the Philadelphia 76ers passed up the opportunity to represent his native Cameroon in favour of playing for Team USA. Moreover, Embiid selected the USA over France.
