There’s something different about the Milwaukee Bucks these days. The fact that they added seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard to the team this summer undoubtedly plays a significant role in it, but this remarkable change extends well beyond Dame.
It appears that Adrian Gryphon, the team’s new head coach, may have been the spark behind the Bucks’ unconventional approach.
Speaking out against the Milwaukee Bucks’ physicality is Giannis Antetokounmpo. It has been revealed that Gryphon has let his sons fight throughout training camp. But as Giannis Antetokounmpo himself said, the new coach has been very understanding of his players’ intense competition and intensity during practice. He’s not pitting them against each other in a boxing ring, after all.According to Jim Owzcarsky of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Antetokounmpo said, “I love it so far, I’m not even gonna lie.”Our physicality seems to be on an other plane. Men are fiercely competitive. Every game we play is one in which competition exists throughout. Everything is in competition. We take part in and perform every drill; as I mentioned, it’s competitive. We attack each other. For the first time in maybe six or seven years, I witnessed guys fighting on October 6. They were arguing back and forth, shoving one other and saying things like, “No, this is mine.” This is my group. “No, don’t hit my teammate; that’s who I support.” I’m going to examine you. Do you understand what I mean? As in, “Don’t do that ever again.” They were just going back and forth, and I loved it when they were like, “No, get out of here.” I don’t want to tell exactly what they said. The Bucks star made a huge statement with this. It is evident that Gryphon adds something fresh to the table, and Giannis’s complete buy-in shows how this team has been in sync from the beginning. In any case, this summer marked the end of previous head coach Mike Budenholzer’s five-year career with the organisation as the front office chose to sever ties with the NBA champion coach. Giannis stated that he has noticed a specific spark in his team that he did not see during coach Bud’s tenure.Antetokounmpo continued praising Gryphon. The former MVP of the NBA loves that the new coach lets every player be themselves, even if that means Giannis nudging his own teammates:”I think Coach ‘Griff’ lets us be ourselves.
