The weather delayed Saturday’s exciting Clasico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona by more than an hour, and there was even a ball explosion.
Beginning in the very first minute of the preseason, both teams were eager to impress the MetLife Stadium audience.
The weather, however, had the most effect early on since the skies opened and lightning threatened, forcing the game to be halted for more than an hour. The players quickly caught up when the game ultimately resumed, with new Real Madrid signing Endrick taking pleasure in his first Clasico. However, as halftime drew near, the young Brazilian, whose biggest contribution of the first half, rushed the ball after having a snapshot blocked by a Barcelona defender. Robert Lewandowski mishandled a cross from deep inside the area, allowing Pau Victor to nod home from five yards out with a clumsy touch. This seemed to be a breakthrough just before halftime. After a brief intermission to ensure that the momentum was maintained, Victor scored his second goal shortly after, slipping in following a wonderful cross from Alex Valle.Barca was in control, but VInicius Jr.’s arrival turned the tide slightly in favor of Real Madrid. The Brazilian made excellent passes to fellow countryman Endrick and nearly cut the deficit at a corner, but his attempt was thwarted by a clumsy touch.Eight minutes remained, and Nico Paz’s header set up an exciting finish. However, the match was eventually called off, nearly three hours after it began, with Hansi Flick winning his first Clasico.
