Ronaldo posted on social media, saying, “There are no words to describe what you mean to me.” We won everything on the pitch as a team. The best accomplishment, though, is my regard and friendship with you. Pepe, you’re special. I am very grateful for what you have done.

Pepe’s career ended in the quarterfinals of the Euro 2024 against France. The 41-year-old Portuguese centre back has 141 caps for his country. Also, he made history by becoming the oldest player to play in a Euro final.

Pepe played for Real Madrid for ten years, eight of those seasons with Cristiano Ronaldo, wearing the club’s jersey. The 1983-born central defender at Santiago Bernabeu won two FIFA Club World Cups, three Champions Leagues, and three La Liga titles.

Pepe left Real Madrid in 2019 to play for Porto in his homeland. Pepe’s value diminished after the club’s leadership changed following the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season. The “veteran” center-back’s departure from Porto was also revealed at the conclusion of the Euro 2024 finals.
