Kevin Durant couldn’t seem to sleep after Team USA’s thrilling comeback 95-91 win over Serbia on Thursday. After all, the team overcame a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter, thanks to heroics by Durant’s former Golden State Warriors teammate Stephen Curry. So like any one of us, he was scrolling on X
It was 5 a.m. Paris time, but it was still 11 p.m. on the West Coast. Durant found a tweet that itched him the wrong way and decided to engage with an X user in the middle of the night.
Even though Kevin Durant was a major part of that victory, it wasn’t enough for him and he continued battling afterward.
Only this time, the battling was done online.
According to Yahoo Sports, Durant sent a message to Denver Nuggets fans who were rooting for Jokic during the game.
“To all you nuggets fans, nobody gives a f— who yall lames believe is the best player in the league,” Durant started.
He continued, “players got major respect for Jok, we don’t worship him like yall do but most are in awe of his brilliance. Trolling you cornballs for rooting against us is apart of the game. Deal wit it.”
There were definitely a number of Nuggets fans who were rooting for Serbia during the big game, mostly so they could see their star player shine once again.
And shine he did.
Did Durant sleep that night? We may never know. But we know that Team USA didn’t return to the team hotel until 1 a.m. Paris time. We also know that this isn’t the first time that Durant has gotten into it with fans and other voices on social media. If Durant is given the opportunity to engage in a Twitter fight, you bet he will be there.
Kevin Durant had time this morning to respond to some “lames” about Team USA, Jokic, fan culture, etc.
Jokic was fantastic yet again and proved why many people consider him the best player on the planet.
But these fans rooting for Jokic didn’t sit well with Durant and he felt like he had to respond.
Even with Serbia’s loss, Jokic might still be the best player in the world.
However, he will not be a gold medalist this year while Durant is just one win away from taking home that prize yet again.
