Edu, the sporting director of Arsenal, is in Spain to complete negotiations with Mikel Merino.

The 28-year-old Merino, a gifted player for Real Sociedad, says he wants to play for the Gunners. Negotiations are underway between the two parties to transfer this Spanish midfield player.

He did not play for them on Friday in their preseason friendly match against Union Berlin, raising rumours that he is moving to the Emirates.

During the quarterfinal match against Germany, Merino scored the game-winning goal for the Spanish squad that won the Euro 2024 competition.

The midfield player is now being negotiated by Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta has long stated a desire to join him.

It is anticipated that negotiating a personal terms agreement with Merino would be simple once a bid is accepted.

Merino’s current deal is set to expire next year, and Real Sociedad is keen to keep him on board and has offered him a new one.

However, Merino’s representatives are said to have informed the team that he intends to commit to the Gunners.

Eddie Nketiah is anticipated to be the player to leave, and Arsenal’s ability to complete a trade may depend on their ability to sell players.

Although Marseille was in talks to sign the striker, they were unwilling to pay Arsenal’s £27 million asking price.

Nketiah is being considered by Bournemouth as a possible Dominic Solanke replacement.
