As usual happens after France loses an international football match, a number of their players were involved in incidents following their defeat by Italy. Among them was William Saliba, a defender for Arsenal.
What the French media actually thought of Arsenal star William Saliba’s performance against Belgium
The Arsenal centre back didn’t get along with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, therefore Saliba was criticised for his solo performance at the time.
However, things were different on Monday night when France defeated Belgium 2-0 at home.
Following their 4-1 defeat over Italy, France’s manager, Didier Deschamps, made a number of changes. Konate and Saliba were two of the players that began both matches.
Saliba did well for Arsenal by upholding his manager’s faith and preventing a goal against players such as Kevin De Bruyne.
Leandro Trossard, of course, was not selected for these games and was not even a member of Belgium’s squad.
He could be France’s “defensive leader,” William Saliba informed him.
William Saliba is in the Real Madrid squad’s orbit.
It’s noteworthy that during the 2-0 victory, Matteo Guendouzi was chosen player of the match by a large portion of the French press. It seems nostalgic.
Saliba wasn’t the only Arsenal defender smothering De Bruyne at the back, though, based on the way he played. Furthermore, according to Sofoot, RB Leipzig and England-linked attacker Lois Openda received a hard lesson.
With an 8 out of 10, they remarked, “William Saliba made sure to show Lois Openda what his weekends might be like: on the ground, with bloody ankles, if he was thinking about moving to the Premier League soon.”

Saliba “confirmed his potential as a future cornerstone of the French defence,” according to Mvz Sports. Physically, he was really strong and did a good job handling the deep. He was unaffected by Openda.
“He felt a little nervous when he had to start over, but he managed to remain composed and confident in himself when facing the Belgians.” The result was reassuring.
Foot Mercato furthered the remarks made by others on Saliba appearing a bit uneasy with the ball following the restart, which is odd.
They summed it up by saying, “The Arsenal defender was effective against a very poor Belgian attack. He continues to start in the middle of the Blues’ lineup.
“Even though he had a few scares when he started up again, he was very solid.” As a star on defense for this French team, he has a bright future ahead of him.
Martin Odegaard got hurt while playing for Norway before the North London match.
It looks like Saliba will be able to get back to London Colney without any injuries, but his captain, Martin Odegaard, has not been so lucky.
Odegaard had to leave the game with an ankle injury on Monday night while playing with Erling Haaland for Norway.
Getting Declan Rice in place for the derby was already hard for Mikel Arteta, and now it looks like his leader will also have to miss it.
Riccardo Calafiori is also hurt, which means the Gunners will have a tough international break.
All of these problems should not be too big of a deal, but Arsenal now has to go to Tottenham Hotspur and then play Atalanta and Manchester City next week.
