For manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal seems to be in the lead to recruit a £67 million Premier League striker, who may eventually take Gabriel Jesus’ place.
Arsenal wants to add a striker by 2025.
Despite star striker Kai Havertz’s outstanding play in a makeshift role, there have been numerous stories in the previous few weeks suggesting that the Gunners are keen to get a new center-forward for the upcoming campaign.
Arteta’s go-to option up top, the German has already scored six goals in all competitions and has repaid the Spaniard’s faith with six goals in 10 appearances this season.
Havertz’s withdrawal from international duty due to a knee injury gave Arsenal a concern, as he missed their matches against Bosnia and the Netherlands. However, there is a huge breath of relief that he is set to be healthy for Bournemouth.
But that fleeting “heart in mouth” moment highlights how exposed Arsenal could be to major player injuries. With weeks to go until his ankle ligament injury heals, club captain Martin Odegaard will be sidelined, and Havertz’s absence would have severely hurt Arteta’s team.
It’s thought that Arsenal is looking to sign a new striker for 2025; they might do it as early as January since Jesus’s current lack of consistency makes it difficult for him to lead the line.
Former head of recruitment Mick Brown told Football Insider that Hagertz has been outstanding lately.
“You have to give folks like that a lot of credit because a lot of people would have backed away from him when questions were raised. However, he’s performed admirably for them. Mikel Arteta deserves kudos for extracting this from him. However, I’ve heard that Arsenal would still like to purchase someone in that position if there was a better choice available.
“The issue is that there isn’t a large pool of players who can play that position and travel to the Premier League. Arsenal will not want to throw away any of their funds on a player they do not require. Even with Havertz doing as well as he has, I believe they will still be cautious and actively seeking for ways to get better.
“At the forefront” of the competition to sign Jhon Duran seems to be Arsenal.
The striker Jhon Duran of Aston Villa is reportedly a top target for Arsenal in 2025, according to Spanish media. The Colombian has started this season in spectacular manner, with six goals in 10 games across all competitions. He just inked a new contract at Villa Park, which has increased his value in the market.
Arsenal is said to “seem to be at the forefront of the race” to sign Duran, who may fetch at least £67 million from suitors. This coincides with the possibility that Jesus, 20, may be sold by Arsenal the following season, making him a viable replacement.
