After signing a new long-term deal, Anthony Gordon says his main goal is to end Newcastle’s 55-year title drought.
Last month, Mail Sport’s Newcastle Confidential blog reported that the England winger would sign a new deal with the club that would keep him there until 2029.
Gordon was upset when Newcastle thought about moving him to Liverpool in June so they wouldn’t break the Profit and Sustainability Rules and lose points.
At the time, it was called “the nuclear option,” and everyone at St. James’ Park was determined to find other options. The sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson were the result of those efforts.
Liverpool and Arsenal are still interested in Gordon, but he says he is happy at Newcastle United because the club paid him for his rise and getting into the England starting XI this season. He wants to win a trophy now.
He said, “I just think the club is in a great place.” “Since the takeover, things have only gone up.” We both play the same way, which is great for the boss (Eddie Howe). I love this place.
I’m going to win a prize because I’m happy here, I like living here, and the team is a great fit for me. In short, we need to get a prize. It would be amazing to win a prize here after all the fans have been waiting. A huge goal of mine is to be on the team that finally does it.
“Geordies are so friendly and easygoing; they always want the best for you. That’s why my family and I have always felt at home here.” It’s simple to move here. I feel very close to my teammates, the fans, and everyone else engaged.
Howe knew Gordon was the player he wanted most when he signed him from Everton for £45 million in January 2023. Fans love the player now that he’s got better, and Howe said, “I’m delighted Anthony has committed his future to the club.” Along with becoming a better person, he has grown as a player at Newcastle United. He has also continued to show how good he is on the biggest stages.
“He is dedicated to getting better and so is the team. When you add that to the quality of his plays and his incredibly high work rate, it’s easy to see why our fans feel so close to him.” Anthony has even more to offer, and I’m excited for him and us.
Paul Mitchell, the director of sports, said, “Anthony is a great player who still has a long way to go.” It makes us all very happy that he wants to be a part of Newcastle United’s journey.
“Our staff has done a great job developing his skills and helping him get better, and Anthony deserves a lot of praise for always pushing himself to do better and reach his goals.” One important part of building long-term success is developing, rewarding, and keeping our bright young players. Anthony plays a big role in helping us reach our lofty goals.
