The amazing back heeled volley that Erling Haaland made to double Manchester City’s lead in the Champions League stunned the critics.
At the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s team was ahead 1-0 over Sparta Prague. Phil Foden scored the goal that put the home team ahead of the Czech team.
After being set up by Brazilian winger Savinho, Haaland scored an amazing goal to make it 2-0.
Savio’s cross into the box came at an odd height for Haaland, but the Norwegian contorted his body to hit the ball with a back heeled volley.
Haaland made the right touch to send the ball past Peter Vindahl, the Sparta Prague goalie.
Co-anchor for TNT Sports Glenn Hoddle praised the 24-year-old’s speed and called the goal a “amazing goal.”
“What the heck did he just do?” Hoddle said, “That is a great goal.”
Hagland is just standing there, not playing. It’s great that Savinho can stop and start him and pass the ball.
Oh my gosh, off the heel of his foot. He really knows what he’s doing.
“That is such a great finish that the goalkeeper can’t read it.”
“Wow, I had no idea he was that good at kung fu as well. That was an amazing finish.”
Guardiola’s team easily won 5-0, with Haaland’s goal being the best of a great night for Man City.
The forward scored his second goal of the night after Man City quickly counterattacked. John Stones and a Matheus Nunes penalty added to the score.
Nunes said that Haaland’s goal was similar to one that the forward had scored against Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
“I couldn’t say a word after his shot because it was so amazing,” Nunes told TNT Sports.
“I was watching TV when he scored against Dortmund.”
“Exciting to see this live.”
With seven points from three games, Man City is third in the league phase, behind Aston Villa and Liverpool. Their 5-0 win continues their good start in the Champions League.
The forward scored two goals tonight, giving him 13 goals in 12 games for Man City this season.
