When someone asked a Sporting Lisbon fan about boss Ruben Amorim’s move to Manchester United, the fan broke down in tears.
The fan had his face hidden, and a reporter had to comfort him outside of the club’s Estadio de Alvalade on Tuesday afternoon, before a cup game with Nacional.
It was reported on Tuesday that Manchester United has decided to pay Amorim’s £8.3 million release clause to bring him to Old Trafford.
If that happened, Sporting would lose a boss who has won three Portuguese League Cups and two Portuguese titles, the most recent in 2020 after a 19-year absence.
Amorim has built a relationship with the club’s fans over four years, which was clear from the fan’s emotional state—by the end of the chat with TV station SIC Noticias, the fan could only croak in a high voice.
A report from Mail Sport on Tuesday afternoon said that the main problem with getting Amorim out of the Portuguese capital is that he has to give his notice time, which is a normal job-related formality.
As a result, he won’t be in charge when United play Chelsea on Sunday if an early termination deal can’t be made.
It’s possible that Amorim, who won back-to-back titles in Portugal, won’t be able to take over until November 24, when United travel to Ipswich Town.
Before Tuesday night’s Portuguese League Cup match against Nacional, Amorim laughed off questions about his future and wouldn’t say anything important.
“I knew you were going to ask that,” he said. “Obviously I’m not going to talk about my future.” “No matter what I say, I have to talk about it all the time.”
“I’m proud to be managing Sporting.”
One could understand if they thought this sped-up hiring process was a bit of a blur.
Erik ten Hag was fired by the club on Monday morning, and he is already being overshadowed by amorim-related news because he took a private jet to get home to the Netherlands.
The Dutch manager was happy that Manchester United was 14th in the table, after finishing eighth in the Premier League, which was their worst ever finish.
During his time with the club, they won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. In his first season, they finished third. He hired Ruud van Nistelrooy as an assistant over the summer, and now he is in charge for now.
Mail Sport has learned that Ten Hag was fired at the same time as the public, and captain Bruno Fernandes was the first person to respond.
I appreciate everything you’ve done, boss!” he wrote on Instagram. I’m grateful for your faith and the times we spend together. Best of luck to you in the future.
“Even though the last few months haven’t been great for any of us, I hope that the good things the manager has done for our club will stay with you!”
Ten Hag has also been thanked by Rasmus Hojlund on social media. Within his Instagram stories, he wrote, “Thanks for everything, boss.” Excellent luck for the future.
After him came Alejandro Garnacho, who said, “Thank you for everything, boss.” Thank you so much for giving me the chance and the courage to play for this club.
“Things didn’t work out the way we wanted, but I’ll always remember the good times we had together. Best of luck to you in the future.”
