Liverpool secured a 3–2 win away at Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Jarell Quansah was taken off during the closing minutes of Liverpool’s EFL Cup win over Brighton after he inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net to set up a potentially nervy finish at the AMEX Stadium.
Quansah lined up in the center of Liverpool’s defense alongside Joe Gomez but did not complete the match after being replaced in injury time as Arne Slot looked to shore up his backline.
His careless backpass led to a goal from Adingra that put Liverpool in a bad position.
And many Liverpool supporters support the Dutchman’s decision amid some concern of the damage it can do to the young player’s confidence.
infachuation922: “Genuinely flummoxed at why so many criticise Slot for taking Quansah off. He was looking for the result at the end of the day, that should be the priority always.”
MrScepticOwl: “I’ve started to like Slot: he is ruthless to bring results, churning out rotation to focus on the fixture, not stubborn at all.”
stevieG08Liv: “At 3–2 with 4 minutes left and Brighton pushing for an equaliser, I thought it was better team management to take off Quansah who realistically was a liability after the second goal.”
SoundsVinyl: “Feel bad for Quansah he is just shot at the moment, can’t do much right. I wonder how much more chances he will get before another CB is brought in an he is moved down the queue.”
Quansah is having a disappointing season on a personal level, having appeared in just two matches since the opening weekend of the Premier League season, when he was hooked at half-time of Liverpool’s game against Ipswich Town.
