Eden Hazard, a player for Chelsea, has broken up with the girl he loved as a child and is now living alone.
Fernandez and his influencer wife Valentina Cervantes met in Argentina, where they both live. They have two kids together: a girl born in March 2020 and a son born in October 2023.
Fernandez moved to Benfica in 2022, and Cervantes followed him there. She then moved to London to be with her partner when he signed for Chelsea for £107 million last January. Yet, after a little more than 18 months together, the two have chosen to split up.
Thursday, Cervantes posted on Instagram, “With Enzo today we say distance from each other,” to break the news that they were no longer together. We’ll always be family, though, and help each other through everything. Because there are two kids in the middle who need a lot of love.
“I know what a great person and father Enzo is, and I know what a good heart he has.” That’s enough for me. They don’t want to start wars that aren’t possible.
In his statement, Cervantes says that the breakup was friendly, and on X, an Argentine writer gave more information about it.
His words to her were, “I want to live my life by myself.” Even though they are still family, he feels the need to go through the stage he skipped when he chose family early on.
Fernandez’s big choice about his personal life comes at a tough time in his Chelsea career. In the past few weeks, Enzo Maresca has put him on the bench.
The 23-year-old was captain of the Blues in the early part of the season, but he hasn’t played either of Chelsea’s last two league games because Maresca likes Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia better together in the middle of the field.
Chelsea lost 2-0 at Newcastle on Wednesday, which meant they were out of the Carabao Cup. Fernandez was brought back into the starting lineup.
He will have to work hard to get back into Chelsea’s best team after not living up to standards since moving to England. So far, he has only scored seven goals and set up six others in 74 Chelsea games.
Fernandez has had some good times too. In July, he won the Copa America with Argentina.
After Argentina won the Copa America, he caught several members of the team singing a racist song about France’s black players on video. This put him in the middle of a racism storm.
Wesley Fofana, a player for Chelsea, called the song “uninhibited racism” and stopped following Fernandez on Instagram. His club teammates Axel Disasi and Malo Gusto did the same thing.
After the backlash, Fernandez posted an apology that said, “I want to apologise for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations.”
“The song uses extremely offensive language, and there is no reason for it at all.” It’s wrong for me to get caught up in the excitement of our Copa America parties. I’m against all kinds of discrimination.
“That video, that moment, and those words don’t show what I believe or who I am.” I’m really sorry.
He also told his Chelsea teammates he was sorry, and they accepted him back into the team before the season started in August.
