I honestly wouldn’t be able to fault you if you thought the title of this piece was a bit dramatic. The only thing is that the word “shock” makes me think of how I’d feel if the news from Spain came true. Fichajes via Sport says that Karim Adeyemi is being talked about as a possible move to Barcelona.
This isn’t really that shocking on its own. Hansi Flick has set the tone for his style of play at Barcelona. The former head coach of Bayern Munich and Germany has brought new life to the Catalan club and made them an attractive, forward-thinking team. Adeyemi, on the other hand, was really firing for Dortmund before he got hurt and has been out for eight games.
The shocking part is the idea that Barcelona wants to “bait” Dortmund into a deal by giving them Ferran Torres in exchange for the young German defender. This will lower the amount of money Dortmund would have to pay for him. So far this season, Torres has played eight times and scored one goal and set up two others.
Dortmund was said to be interested in Torres before he moved from Valencia to Manchester City in the summer of 2020. He is now a full-fledged Spanish international. It would be strange for teams to be interested in the 24-year-old winger now, since he hasn’t become the great player that was expected of him before the move. This is especially true since Adeyemi has been coming into his own this season and was a big part of what Dortmund did on the field before he got hurt.
Additionally, the fact that any of Dortmund’s attackers being mentioned with Barcelona makes me think of how bad it was when Ousmane Dembele left, which makes me very hopeful that Dortmund will not sell Adeyemi in this way. Since his current deal doesn’t end until 2027, Dortmund doesn’t have to rush to think about a possible exit if they don’t want to.
The young German player Adeyemi seems to be happy with Dortmund. The attacker who used to play for RB Salzburg played down rumors that he was interested in joining Juventus over the summer, saying that he was happy playing for Dortmund. If only he could fully recover from his injury, they would hope that he could come back and continue to be an important part of Dortmund’s offensive plans, putting an end to reports like this one.
