HERE WE GO! David Beckham appoints former Premier League star and former Lionel Messi teammate Mascherano as head coach of Inter Miami – on a three-year deal!😍😍

David Beckham has brought another former Prem star in to manage Inter Miami

Mascherano, who is 40 years old, will now teach Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, all of whom used to play for Barcelona.

Cesar Luis Merlo, a trade reporter, says that the former Liverpool star has signed a long-term deal with the MLS team.

A lot of Inter Miami’s young players play for him on Argentina’s under-20 team, which he will also leave as boss.

Javier Mascherano will be reunited with fellow Argentine and ex-Barca team-mate Lionel Messi

The Athletic say that papers are “being prepared” for Mascherano’s first job at a senior men’s club.

Gerardo “Tata” Martino quit as coach just three days after Miami was shockingly knocked out of the MLS playoffs in the first round.

Atlanta United beat Miami 3-2 in Game 3 to win the three-game series and send Miami home for good. This ended their 2024 season.

Messi, Alba, and Suarez all played in all three games. Suarez scored in the final loss and is the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Mascherano is set to leave his position as manager of Argentina's under-20s

Mascherano joined Liverpool in 2006 and played for three years there. He was a part of a great middle trio with Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso.

After that, Mascherano won titles with Messi, Suarez, Alba, and Busquets during his eight years at Barcelona.

He won five LaLiga wins and two Champions Leagues while he was in Spain.

He’s not the first former Premier League player to be in charge of Inter. Phil Neville ran the team for two and a half years before his friend David Beckham fired him.

It was Martino’s choice to leave for personal reasons. This season, he led Miami to the best regular season record in MLS history.

Martino, 61, coached Messi with Barcelona and Argentina’s national team before working with him again in South Florida. He showed no signs of leaving when the season finished earlier this month.

It was a great MLS season for Miami. They went 26-9-12 and won both the League Cup and the Supporters Shield in 2023.

Mascherano is going to have a busy 2025 because the team is going to go on another foreign pre-season tour.

There are also 34 games in Major League Soccer, and Miami will be one of the teams in the Club World Cup that starts in June.

But Miami won’t start training camp for the 2025 season until January.

Mascherano is the most recent ex-Messi partner to join an MLS team, but he is the first to work as a coach.

At the 2024 Olympics in Paris, he led Argentina to a quarterfinal loss to France, who won the silver medal.

All four of the team’s ex-Barcelona stars are expected to leave at the end of the season.

Busquets and Messi’s contracts will end at the end of the 2025 season. Suarez is in talks about extending his contract for one year, and Alba has an opportunity to add another year to it.
