Barcelona has reportedly met with Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah’s agent as they aim to sign the German as a free agent next summer.
The club is keen on strengthening its defense for the 2025 season, despite the emergence of young player Pau Cubarsi and veteran Inigo Martinez. Ronald Araujo’s injury has resulted in the use of younger players like Sergi Dominguez and Andres Cuenca, highlighting a need for more depth.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have also expressed interest in Tah, but Sky Germany reports that Barcelona currently leads the race to secure the Germany international after his contract expires at the end of the season. Sporting director Deco reportedly met with Tah’s agent, Pini Zahavi, on December 5.
According to Jijantes, Deco and Tah’s representatives had a productive meeting at a restaurant in Leverkusen, leaving both parties satisfied. Zahavi has a strong relationship with Barcelona’s management, facilitating the discussions. He also represents Barca coach Hansi Flick.
As of early 2025, Tah will enter the final six months of his contract with Leverkusen, allowing him to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with another club for a summer transfer. However, reports indicate that Tah has not yet made a final decision regarding his future.
