Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Celtics forward Jayson Tatum have been named the NBA’s Players of the Week for the Western and Eastern Conferences, respectively, as announced by the league (via Twitter).
The two MVP contenders are the first to earn the Player of the Week honor twice in the 2024/25 season. Tatum last won the award for the East on October 28, while Jokic secured his first for the West on November 11.
Jokic dominated in Denver’s 3-1 week from Dec. 30 to Jan. 5, posting an astounding triple-double average of 36.5 points, 16.5 rebounds, and 11.3 assists across four games. The highlight came in two consecutive 40+ point performances against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, including a 41-point, 18-rebound display in Friday’s loss.
Meanwhile, Tatum contributed to Boston’s 3-1 record with strong performances, averaging 25.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 steals in 34.8 minutes per game. His efforts propelled victories over Toronto, Minnesota, and Houston before the Celtics fell to Oklahoma City on Sunday.
For the Western Conference honor, Jokic outperformed other nominees, including Anthony Davis, LeBron James, De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Wembanyama (NBA via Twitter link). In the East, nominees included Giannis Antetokounmpo, Cade Cunningham, Joel Embiid, Darius Garland, Tyrese Haliburton, and Coby White.
